Instagram reels have been on the scene since August 2020. That’s over three years, can you believe it?! However, they are a format that lots of business owners find quite tricky and time consuming.
A common issue that pops up while I’m supporting small business owners through my reels training, is that they’re either unsure what to post as a reel or they’re over-complicating them. Do you relate?
Remember all you need to create a reel is a single video clip. You can use multiple clips if you wish and you can experiment with fun transitions and special effects too, but if you’re just starting out with reels, or finding them too time-consuming, then try simplifying your approach. I often find the simplest reels are the ones that perform the best too!
Here are some simple reels ideas for you to consider for your business:
9 instagram reels ideas for business
1. A behind the scenes tour
Press record for a few seconds to share your office or workspace. It’s always really interesting to see what happens behind the scenes. This could be you working at your desk, packing away orders, or showing something new you’ve recently added to your space.
2. Film a nice view and overlay a inspiring comment or quote
Sometimes a barrier to making reels is lack of content. So I always make a point of recording a nice view whenever I see one, as they make great backdrops to overlay key messaging onto.
3. A before and after
If you’re working on something that involves some kind of transformation – share the before and after! This could be a workspace tidy, a product being created or a service you’re delivering for a customer.
4. A product showcase
Share a series of short video clips or photos to showcase one product or a range. Or a single video clip showing your product (or service!) in action would work well too.
5. A day in the life of a…
Film a few short clips of your day to show your audience what your typical day looks like. For example, you might start with the school run, then making your morning coffee before you start on your work tasks, then heading out for a walk. These types of reels help people get to know you and feel more connected to you.
6. A tutorial
Share a short video that teaches your audience how to do something. This could be how to use your product, a useful tool or a time-saving hack.
7. Use a Canva reels template
If you’re lacking content then Canva has lots of reels templates that already include video content that you can adapt with your own message. To get started try searching for ‘testimonial reels’…which gives you a extra reels idea! Testimonials don’t have to be posted as static images, they actually work really well as a reel as it makes them way more engaging.
8. Meet the team
Another great way to connect with your audience. Share a reel to introduce yourself or your team. Sometimes you’ll come across a reels audio that works perfectly for this type of reel.
9. Show your process
I find process reels highly engaging. If you make your own product, film a short clip of you creating, it only needs to be a few seconds. Or you could film the whole process and speed it up to create a timelapse.
I hope you found these reels ideas useful. Happy creating!
